about

On their new album ‘Oh yeah habibi’, NO Blues follow their tradition of building a bridge between east and west. Allways unique with their ‘arabicana’; a steamy mix of Arabic and American folk music. Despite their ten year anniversary the band sounds as fresh as a up coming band. U’d player Safia; “We wanted to return to the basis of guitar, u’d, double bass and percussion. Bassist Van Heuvelen: “This is our most coherent album as of yet”.
This NO blues album is also a political statement. In contrast with the previous albums, the band chose to use the state of the world as topic for the songs. Singer / producer Keultjes: “It’s about dealing with a world that is on the run and the role of religion in this struggle”. Guitar player Van Meurs says: “We have never been a political band, but we don’t look away”.

NO blues started as an idea in the mind of Rob Kramer. He invited Ad van Meurs (guitar), Haytham Safi a (u'd) and Anne-Maarten van Heuvelen (double bass) and locked them up for three days in one room as a project for productie huis Oost-Nederland (ON). Their assignment was to investigate a possible combination between folk-blues and traditional Arabic music. The musicians soon succeeded in fi nding a musical no-mans-land and called it Arabicana. During the recordings of the fi rst album Osama Meleegi (percussion) and Ankie Keultjes (backing vocals) joined the band. The debut album 'Farewell Shalabiye'
(2005) was an instant success and the band continued with 'Ya Dunya' (2007), 'Lumen' (2009), Hela Hela' (2011) and 'Kind of NO blues' (2013). With this sixth album 'Oh Yeah Habibi' (2015) the band continues their musical journey. Ten years of their unique and pure blend of Arabicana!
