No Depression: 'Holy Mackerel! I think Gruppo Sportivo died and came back to life as The Claudettes! You remember Gruppo Sportivo, don't you? That late-seventies, early-eighties band out of Holland which would have turned the record “industry” on its ears if the damn “industry” had had ears?"
The Claudettes were formed in Chicago by
Johnny Iguana, piano player on the
Grammy-nominated albums "Chicago Blues:
A Living History" and "Muddy Waters 100"
and organist in the punk-organ band oh my
god. After two mostly instrumental albums
on Yellow Dog Records. Johnny re-formed
the Claudettes with singer Berit Ulseth,
drummer Matt Torre and singer/bassist
Zach Verdoorn in early 2016. Tour dates and
