Dale Watson and the Sun Studios. The connection is obvious. Many of his favourite artists have recorded there. Elvis and Johhnny Cash leading the pack.
And even if this is not a tribute album, these Sun Sessions breath nothing but respect for the Man in Black. And the listeners will no doubt feel the presence of Johnny Cash in these songs, the same way that Dale felt his presence when recording From The Craddle To The Grave in Johnny's old cabin or when he recorded the songs on this album. And in the tradition of the old master, Dale's back up for this album is set up the way that Johnny Cash recorded in the Sun Studios many times himself. Just drums and upright bass to accompany Dale's voice and guitar. Maybe we should call Dale Watson and The Texas Two and their Sun Sessions a tribute after all.
